I adorn you!

Workshop Description

Bling, bling! this is a jewellery course – Human adornment is one of the oldest art forms, as well as being an important form of communication about culture and self-expression. In this course, we will use the historic gold and silversmithing facilities at the Hochschule für Gestaltung to reconsider what it means to wear jewellery and adorn ourselves.

We get crafty! – Do you like wearing brooches? We will examine this dusty, old-fashioned piece of jewellery and consider how jewellery relates to and ultimately clings to the body. To achieve this, we will learn some gold and silversmithing techniques using selected materials to craft our own adornment for the body.

Educational Goal

This course aims to broaden the traditional understanding of jewellery. In the spirit of contemporary jewellery, we are moving away from a simple bling bling! towards a more nuanced understanding of what it means to adorn oneself. By learning and using selected gold and silversmithing techniques we connect this new thought about adornment with the value oft craft.
