Spontaneous Process as Design Method – Let's play the game of "Sprocess“

Workshop Description

In a world full of big opportunities and even bigger challenges, flexibility, resilience, and quick thinking matter more than ever. In design education, students learn how to develop ideas step by step — but what happens when the rules suddenly change halfway through?

That’s where this workshop comes in. Inspired by shifting conditions, changing teams, and the surprises of real-world design processes, we explore what happens when one person picks up another’s work, continues the idea, bends it, twists it, or takes it somewhere unexpected.

We call it "Sprocess" — a playful mix of spontaneity and process. It’s about letting go a little, trusting the game, and discovering what happens when control gives way to curiosity. Think of it like Mensch ärgere dich nicht: don’t take it personally, just play, have fun!

Educational Goal

Across five days, participants move through a series of rotating briefs, handovers, and shifting perspectives. Each day brings new constraints, new collaborators, and new possibilities, leading to a shared reflection on authorship, adaptability, and the joy of designing in motion.

What you need for this workshop

Participants are encouraged to bring their own design tools: sketchbooks, drawing materials, a laptop, and any preferred prototyping or documentation tools (camera, phone).

Requirements

No specific prior technical knowledge is required – an open and curious mindset is the only prerequisite.
