Finding your own voice – Speaking up in an age of turmoil
Workshop Description
In a time when democracy and public discourse are under serious threat it is of utmost importance to voice dissent.
The workshop uses the adage ”the personal is political” as its jumping off point and encourages upcoming designers to be more than mere marketers. We all have a voice and we should use it to make this world a better place. Or at the very least a slightly less horrible one.
Visual activism is needed, but its form is variegated — the participants will speak about themes close and dear to themselves. The central thing is to make a statement, to show the power of those not in power, whatever the issue tackled might be. The message conveyed needn’t by any means be an overtly political one, as small personal choices starting as small ripples will often create great waves.
This workshop encourages the participants to explore topics they feel are important and perhaps neglected. The participants will express themselves through the medium of zines, posters and flyers.
During the workshop we will perform several smaller exercises, but the main part of the week will be spent designing and producing printed material from our own point of view using the basic tools and methods of visual storytelling.
Let us be the change we wish to see in the world. And let us use the skills and tools we have to make this change a reality!
